Preparing For Surgery

Preparing for Surgery

Faced with surgery it can feel overwhelming, however there are measures available to support recovery
and minimise the physical stress on the body. Focus on achieving optimal health in the lead-up. Exercise where possible, eat a nourishing diet, fresh vegetable juices, plus avoid sugar, alcohol and processed fats. High levels of fats and sugars in the blood can inhibit the immune system response to infection.

Before and after surgery, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, zinc, glutamine and the bioflavonoids, may assist with healing and immune system support. Antioxidants help counteract the inflammation and increased free radical production derived from surgery and anaesthesia. Good choices include; Vitamin C, St Mary’s Thistle, Turmeric and Grape Seed Extract. These also provide liver support.

To reduce bruising and tissue trauma the homeopathic Arnica 30c may be useful. It can be combined with
Staphysagria 30c for the healing of incisions and / or Symphytum 30c for broken bones. Homeopathics are safe with other medications and easy to use.

Apprehension and fear can be addressed with Rescue remedy or Emergency essence. These are gentle
flower essences, compatible with medications and also helpful for family and friends.
